INNOVATION

Workouts should be hard, payments should be easy

New wearables, such as Fitbit Ionic and Garmin vívoactive3, make paying while on the go convenient and secure with just a flick of your wrist

For too long, fitness fans have had to choose between leaving home without their wallet, or storing their card or cash somewhere uncomfortable and inconvenient. In fact, more than half of the participants in the Visa Sweaty Money Survey* reported that they have chosen not to bring any form of payment with them during exercise because they either worry they’ll lose it, or have no place to put it. And if they do bring along cash or card, 57 percent have resorted to stashing it somewhere less than ideal—like a shoe or their underwear.

So if you’re embarrassed about handing the barista a sweaty bill for your post-workout latte, or don’t love the feeling of a card scratching at your waist while you run, here’s some good news: The new Fitbit Ionic and Garmin vívoactive 3—powered by Visa Token Service—allow you to pay safely on the go, simply by tapping your device on an NFC enabled point-of-sale terminal.

These payment wearables are a welcome solution for anyone looking for an effortless way to pay while working out or just on the go. Check out our “Don’t break a sweat over payments” infographic here to discover more of our survey findings.
